CLOSED LOOP MODEL

Our closed loop business model for McDonald’s was developed in Dubai with the support of their UAE logistics supplier, Martin Brower, and enabled us to dovetail seamlessly into the supply chain. This model takes 100% of McDonald’s used cooking oil (UCO) from 100% of its restaurants, and in return provides 100% biodiesel to 100% of its delivery fleet. Currently, tens of thousands of litres of used cooking oil are collected from McDonald’s UAE’s 100+ restaurants each month and the company’s fleet of supply trucks in the UAE runs on the resulting 100% pure biodiesel.

Used cooking oil is collected from McDonald’s restaurants by the same vehicles that deliver the virgin oil. The used oil is then backhauled to our co-located biorefinery where we convert it, liter for liter, into biodiesel which is then pumped back into the delivery fleet in an ongoing recycling process. Our use of the spare load capacity of delivery trucks has virtually eliminated any logistics costs within the process.

This process is highly efficient and differentiates Neutral Fuels from third party collection systems where the collection of feedstock is separated from the delivery of biodiesel and both from the conversion process, leaving the different players relatively ineffective and, crucially, unable to turn a profit, in the process weakening the industry.

 

REUSABLE OIL CONTAINER – THE ROC

Our reusable oil container (ROC) is the result of years of practical and academic materials suitability study, constructed from a fully recyclable plastic material which is nevertheless able to withstand the temperatures and arduous life of real world operations. Its design has been extensively computer modelled and tested both in simulations and in the field to allow for optimum size and manoeuvrability.

A quantum improvement over metal drums on trolleys, the ROC has many advantages:

  • Makes the transfer of used cooking oil from restaurant to biorefinery safer and easier.
  • Incorporates an accurate method for measuring and recording the quantity of oil collected and delivered.
  • Has no effect on the quality of the oil.
  • Saves space.
  • Is presentable and easy to clean.
  • Has wide wheels that make it both portable and easy to handle.
